Putting Japanese Knotweed Management in to perspective is essential.

Understanding  Japanese knotweed,  how it came to the UK, how it got “black Listed” and knowing what problems it can cause and what problems are just a myth will define whether you should remove or just control Japanese knotweed.  The Property Care Association who accredit competent companies such as PBA Solutions have a new information paper design to dispel the myth surrounding Japanese knotweed putting this invasive species into perspective.

Our conclusions in regard to putting Japanese knotweed in to perspective  boil down to cost! Whilst removing knotweed impacted land provides instant remediation it comes at a price which is exactly why a clear understanding of Japanese knotweed management is beneficial. Where redevelopment or a change of land use is proposed knotweed removal off site can be the most desirable option but there are other control methods which are often more practical and much more cost effective such as chemical treatment.

If you are trying to sell or redevelop land with Japanese Knotweed it is recommended that you use a specialist, have a strategy or management plan in place prior to embarking on a method of control.  In many cases insurance backed guarantees and funded payment systems will be needed to meet lender or investor requirements.  Similarly it is has to be recognised that there are legal implications in dealing with knotweed, waste transfer licences are required to remove impacted waste and qualified competent technicians have to be used to apply herbicides.  So whether you believe there is a problem or “knot” the fact remains; to do nothing in the long run becomes the more costly mistake while good knotweed management is often not that costly after all!
